How to Connect Meta Pixel to Your Online Store

Connect Meta Pixel for Facebook and Instagram ads to your online store. Find your Pixel ID, optionally generate a CAPI access token, paste them into Rovela.

Meta Pixel is what makes Facebook and Instagram ads measurable. Without it, you're spending money against page views — not real purchases. This guide walks through the Meta side of setup: create a Pixel in Events Manager, find your Pixel ID, optionally generate a Conversions API access token for higher accuracy, then paste everything into Rovela.

What Meta Pixel does for your ad spend

Meta Pixel tracks customer behavior on your store and sends it back to Meta — who viewed which product, who added to cart, who bought. Meta uses that data to find more customers like the ones already converting and to bid more on the audiences most likely to purchase.

The Pixel itself is free. Adding the Conversions API (CAPI) on top is also free and is highly recommended once you spend more than about $1,000/month on Meta ads. CAPI sends purchase data server-side, which means iOS users and ad blockers can't kill your tracking — typical attribution lift is 15–30%.

Before you start

  • 10 minutes
  • A Meta Business account (free)
  • A live Rovela store

Step 1: Open Meta Events Manager

Go to business.facebook.com and sign in. From the left sidebar, click Events Manager. If you don't have a Pixel yet, you'll see a Connect data sources button — click it.

Step 2: Create your Pixel

Pick Web as your data source. Enter your store URL — Meta scans for known integrations. When prompted, pick Set up manually. Choose between Meta pixel only (the basic option) or Conversions API and Meta pixel (recommended).

If you pick Conversions API and Meta pixel, choose Set up manually on the next screen too. Name your Pixel something memorable like "My Store Pixel". Click Continue.

Step 3: Find your Pixel ID

After creation, your Pixel page shows the Pixel ID at the top — a 15- or 16-digit number. Copy it.

If you already have a Pixel and need to find this later: Events Manager → click your Pixel in the left list → the ID is at the top of the page next to your Pixel name.

Step 4: Generate a Conversions API access token (optional but recommended)

Inside your Pixel page, go to the Settings tab. Scroll to the Conversions API section. Click Generate access token. A pop-up shows your token (it starts with EAAB…). Copy it immediately — Meta only shows it once.

One catch: this link is only visible to users with developer privileges for your Business Manager. If you don't see it, ask your Business Manager admin to grant you developer access or to copy the token for you.

Step 5: Paste it into Rovela

Open the Rovela Features Store. Go to Insights & Tracking → Connect Meta Pixel. Paste your 15–16-digit Pixel ID. Optionally paste your CAPI access token in the second field. Click Connect Meta Pixel.

Step 6: How to tell it's working

In Events Manager, click your Pixel and go to the Test Events tab. Visit your store in another browser tab — events appear in the test panel within 5–10 seconds.

If you set up the Conversions API too, you'll see the same events appear from both your browser and Rovela's server. Look for the green Deduplicated tag — that means client and server events are matching correctly, which is exactly what you want.

Common questions

  • Do I really need the Conversions API? If you spend over $1,000/month on Meta ads, yes — typical 15–30% improvement in attributed conversions. Below that, the Pixel alone is fine.
  • Why don't I see the "Generate access token" link? You need developer privileges for the Business. An admin in your Business Manager can promote your account or generate the token for you.
  • Is this safe with EU customers? Yes. Rovela gates Meta Pixel behind your store's marketing cookie consent, so EU visitors who decline are never tracked.
  • How long until events show in Ads Manager? Test Events is real-time. Standard reports refresh every few hours. Don't worry if attribution looks low day one — Meta needs ~50 conversions on a campaign to optimize well.

Connect Meta Pixel in one click with Rovela

Rovela handles every technical detail: the Pixel script with cookie consent, the four standard ecommerce events (ViewContent, AddToCart, InitiateCheckout, Purchase), and server-side dedup with matching event IDs when you add the Conversions API. You paste, we ship. Start with Rovela, then pair Meta with Google Ads conversion tracking and TikTok Pixel for full social-channel coverage.
